Katina Aflleje’s mother and sisters still are in the dark about how the seemingly healthy 33-year-old mother of two young children died the same morning her boyfriend was arrested for raping and torturing her.
She died August 6. According to her sister, Evelyn Aflleje, neither the Guam Police Department, the coroner’s office, nor the Office of the Attorney General are telling the family how she died even though her autopsy was completed last week. In fact, her sister told Kandit, the prosecutor in Katina’s rape case last week remained unaware that the victim in the case had died despite the forwarding of the suspect’s police file to the Office of the Attorney General.
Meanwhile, Katina’s family is struggling to pay for her funeral expenses. Her aunt began a GoFundMe page benefiting Katina’s sister Ashlye Taylor, who is coordinating the family’s funeral plans. They are looking to raise $5,000 and thus far have raised less than $700.
