GPD: Viral WhatsApp Messages FALSE; Man Arrested In Isolated Parking Lot Assault

Viral messages telling the Guam public to beware of men from the Zero Down subdivision assaulting people in store parking lots as part of a game ARE FALSE, according to Guam Police Department spokeswoman Officer Berlyn Savella.
If such crimes are happening, these specific incidences have yet to be reported to GPD, she was able to verify as of 3 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2024.
A video of a parking lot assault (that accompanies the viral messages) showing what looks like a man trying to strike another man with a machete is under investigation by police, and an arrest was made.
“I can confirm the video is related to an incident depicting what occurred yesterday with an arrest of a male adult,” Ms. Savella said. “The incident is an isolated incident, and our officers confirmed that they have not responded to nor are they aware of a third incident. The text message circulating regarding a ‘game’ following a short video clip is false.”
GPD cautions against sharing messages that are unverified, but at the same time encourages citizens to remain vigilant against violent and property crimes.
