Agencies lined up to get remaining schools ready

Hundreds, if not thousands, of government of Guam employees soon will begin cleaning up and making repairs at 14 public schools that need help in order to pass public health inspections and reopen. Some agencies have been helping some of the schools through the summer, but the government-wide effort only came together over the past week, after Governor Lou Leon Guerrero ordered a School Opening Readiness Team to harness the executive branch’s resources and make a “whole of government” effort.

The agencies are waiting for the Guam Department of Education to procure and provide the materials and supplies for the readiness effort. According to education superintendent Erik Swanson, his agency has rolled out several purchase orders and requisitions, and those supplies and materials should be in hand shortly.

Also, “On Monday, Guam Power Authority will be given a list of schools needing electrical work,” governor”s spokeswoman Krystal Paco-San Agustin confirmed.
