Andrew Castro sentenced to 18 months in jail for family violence

A government employee with a long history of violent crime has been sentenced by Presiding Judge Alberto Lamorena III to 18 months in prison for felony family violence.

Andrew Castro, whom then-seaport general manager Joanne Brown hired into the Port Authority of Guam months after his release from federal prison on a drug trafficking conviction, pleaded guilty to a February 21, 2021 attack on his ex-girlfriend.

“Mr. Castro admitted to pursuing and terrorizing his victim by ramming his car into hers on the highway,” a news release from the Office of the Attorney General of Guam states. The attack began on Route 8 in Maite and went on for several miles into Barrigada, before ending on Route 10 in Mangilao.

Prosecuting Attorney Dannis Le said, “The victim’s bravery and working with our office’s victim advocates, made this possible. Despite Mr. Castro’s failed attempt to intimidate her, she never wavered.”

This attack occurred just weeks after Mr. Castro was caught on surveillance footage allegedly terrorizing the home of his neighbor, Gene Estrellado.
