Sen. Chris Barnett wants to chair the legislative committee on education, according to information in a news release his office issued today. The public school father says he will fight for the resources the Guam Department of Education needs for students. The release primarily was about his support of the incoming Guam Education Board, whose inauguration he attended; but it also touched upon the leadership impasse happening in the Thirty-seventh Guam Legislature.

Freshman Senator Chris “Malafunkshun” Barnett attended the swearing-in of the elected members of the Guam Education Board that was held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at the Guam Department of Education Headquarters in Tiyan, eager to talk to and offer support to the returning and newly-elected members of the board, including the Island-wide Board of Governing Students.
Senator Barnett has previously indicated interest in chairing the committee that would have oversight over Education.
“Even though we have yet to designate committee assignments for the 37th Guam Legislature, I remain committed to standing up for our kids and our school system and I am excited to work with the incoming Board of Education to do that,” said Senator Barnett.
As a new lawmaker and father of students in the Guam public education system, Senator Barnett is concerned about the quality of education Guam students are receiving and the state of the schools they attend.
Though he left a long career in media to pursue a seat in the 37th Guam Legislature, Senator Barnett continues to be a voice for our residents, standing up for the working people of Guam, fighting for a better quality of life and acting as a THE PEOPLE’S WATCHDOG.
