BREAKING NEWS: Blas to be the next Speaker of the Guam Legislature


The new Republican legislative majority has just emerged from their first caucus and have elected senior member Frank Blas, Jr. to be the Speaker of the Thirty Eighth Guam Legislature.

The caucus elected Senator-elect Tony Ada as its vice speaker and chairman of the powerful Committee on Rules.

Senator-elect Sabrina Salas Matanane will be the next legislative secretary.

Senator Chris Duenas will chair the coveted Committee on Ways and Means.

Other officer positions that were decided in tonight’s caucus include:

Senator Jesse Anderson Lujan as the majority leader; a position that controls the agenda of the legislature while senators are in session.

Senator-elect Shelly Calvo will be the majority whip, the senator responsible for keeping the members of the majority in line.
