News release from the Archdiocese of Agana:
His Eminence Luis Antonio Gokim Cardinal Tagle will join Archbishop Ryan P. Jimenez and numerous clergy as the Archdiocese of Agaña officially culminates the Year of the Eucharistic Revival with Mass at the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica in Hagatña on Wed., Nov. 27, 2024.
Cardinal Tagle graciously accepted Archbishop Ryan’s invitation to preside and deliver the homily at the 3 p.m. Mass.
Cardinal Tagle will celebrate the Mass during a stopover here. He is scheduled to arrive early on Nov. 27 and will leave the same day. The Cardinal will be returning from Saipan where he is participating in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the canonical establishment of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa.
Cardinal Tagle serves as the Vatican’s Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization. Pope Francis appointed him the 32nd Archbishop of Manila on Oct. 13, 2011, a position which he held until 2020.
During the Solemnity of Christ the King last Sunday, Nov. 24, encouraged by Archbishop Ryan, Catholic parishes held Eucharistic processions and/or Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at one of their Masses. Parishes also rang their church bells at 3 p.m.
The archdiocese opened the “Year of the Eucharistic Revival” with Mass on the First Sunday of Advent last Dec. 3, 2023 in the Cathedral-Basilica. Our Church on Guam has spent a full year focusing on restoring understanding and devotion to the great mystery of the Holy Eucharist in our archdiocese. Parishes have held Eucharistic Adoration and Holy Hour at their sites. The Archdiocesan Liturgical Commissions (ALC) organized a series of Eucharistic talks at sites across the island with the goal of renewing worship, love, and devotion of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

And who gives a shit that some “Cardinal” comes to Saipan to flash his Evil grin……Pomp and Circumstance is just the elixir that these courtiers of Rome love to get all drunk on; while poor and humble parishioners close their eyes as they drop their last 5 bucks in the basket, naively thinking and hoping for but an ounce of a return in investment. There is only one thing that is true in this world and that is: “The Lord will and always provide” and his Grace does not come in the form of gold rings on the right ring fingers of Cardinals or Archbishops, nor is it manifested in the grandeur of gothic spires. It is found down deep in our Souls when we close our eyes and feel the nearness of Him……whether we are sitting on the sands of micro beach or when we are driving down to Inarajan with the windows down or when we are locked in a prison cell whispering a prayer to the only one that can hear our thoughts. These men in fancy cloaks can all disappear overnight and we can still find salvation and transform our minds and hearts to reach the goal of true Sanctification without them, a building with pews, fiestas and all the trappings of “religion” that distracts one from simply taking with Him in the peacefulness and roaring silence of our Souls.
