DOCOMO in Guam and the CNMI now is the telecommunications provider offering the highest home (non-fiber) internet speeds at the cheapest prices. The company last week rolled out a series of promotions centered around its offer of up to 1 gigabit per second download speeds. On review of the home internet plans (non-fiber) of the other two major telecommunications carriers in the Mariana Islands, one company offers download speeds of up to 50 megabits per second (mbps); and the other offers up to 100 mbps.
The prices among the telecomm companies for similar download speeds was similar, until last week. For example, Docomo up until last week was charging new subscribers in Guam $110 a month for 60 mbps download speeds. Now and through July 31, 2025, new subscribers will pay only $60 a month for that plan, and what previously was 60 mpbs under that plan now is 150 mbps.
And new subscribers will get the first month of service at no charge. This promotion is for all the company’s home internet plans across all speed offers: higher internet speeds at discounted prices (see red and white flier).
Existing Docomo subscribers were automatically given the newer, higher speeds at no additional charge. For example, if you already were subscribed to Docomo’s 100 mpbs home internet plan, you should now be experiencing 250 mbps download speeds.
The company was able to throttle up its regular internet download speeds to 1 gbps, which matches the fiber speed that Docomo and another telecomm company is offering. Fiber internet runs on different and emerging infrastructure that at least two telecomm companies are building throughout the Marianas. That infrastructure layout is incomplete, and thus not every neighborhood in every village throughout the Marianas can link into either company’s fiber system.
The non-fiber offer by Docomo, according to the company’s managers, is meant to bridge Docomo customers to the future of fiber with up-to-fiber speeds. No other telecomm company in the Marianas has done this. And Docomo’s rates, according to the online rates every company discloses, are far less expensive by comparison.
DOCOMO PACIFIC Announces Strategic Partnership with Lynk Global, LLC to Expand Connectivity in the Marianas
DOCOMO PACIFIC–DOCOMO PACIFIC is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with Lynk Global, LLC (“Lynk”), a pioneering satellite-direct-to-device (D2D) service provider. This collaboration marks an important step toward bringing enhanced connectivity solutions to parts of Guam and the Marianas where traditional telecom infrastructure may be challenged or underserved.
Lynk previously received the world’s first commercial license for international satellite D2D service. They recently were approved for a modification to their FCC license to enable them to launch commercial services. In order to connect to critical areas in this region, they have partnered with DOCOMO PACIFIC.
“This is incredibly exciting for Lynk to be the second direct-to-device provider licensed for commercial service in the U.S. We are taking great strides on our mission to connect everyone, everywhere and this approval demonstrates our progress on our strategic roadmap. It enables Lynk and our trusted partner, DOCOMO PACIFIC, to provide services in parts of the country that are underserved or out of reach from conventional mobile networks. We want to thank the FCC for quickly granting our license modification to provide service in the United States.”
“We are elated to be chosen by Lynk as their trusted telecommunications partner. Lynk’s approach to satellite-direct-to-device technology aligns perfectly with our vision of bringing ‘Tomorrow’s Islands, Today’. While we are still working on laying and testing the foundation for the service, this solution could mean better connectivity to areas where traditional telecom assets are not feasible. This partnership announcement underscores DOCOMO PACIFIC’s enduring commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies and global collaborations. As a result, this brings reliable, high-quality communications services to every resident and business in Guam and the Marianas.”
Further details about the service rollout and testing phases will be shared in future releases as DOCOMO PACIFIC and Lynk work together to bring this transformative connectivity solution to the Marianas.
