DOC guard arrested for drugs


 

Corrections officer Travis Venus allegedly was found with drugs, chewing tobacco, and a makeshift meth pipe during a search at the Guam Department of Corrections. Mr. Venus told police he picked up food for an inmate in Mangilao and did not know there was contraband in the bag. He was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled II substance, promoting major prison contraband, and possession of a controlled II substance.

The Department of Corrections (DepCor) has launched an Internal Affairs Investigation into the arrest of a Corrections Officers. On Sunday morning, April 23, 2023, DepCor’s Special Operations Response Team (S.O.R.T) conducted an administrative search on officers reporting for duty.

During the search, one officer who has been employed with the department since January 2020, had in his possession tobacco, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was booked and confined. When and if he is released by the court, the officer will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the Internal Investigation.

The Department of Corrections takes these allegations seriously and will continue to ensure that every effort is taken to stop the introduction of contraband into its facilities.
