Fearing America’s Day of Reckoning, Hopeful Because of Term Limits to the Presidency

[Editor’s note: Guam Senator Thomas J. Fisher submitted his opinion to Kandit’s question, “What are you most hopeful and most fearful about in the second Trump administration?”]

By Thomas J. Fisher for Kandit News & Views

Domestically I am afraid that the nation is heading into a years long recession coupled with spiking inflation. This is primarily due to the promised tariffs on Chinese, Mexican and Canadian manufactured goods. Tariffs always act as a tax on the consumer. Manufacturers never bear the increased cost but always pass it on to the tax on to the consumer.

Domestically I am afraid that President Trump and the ineffably awful Stephen Miller wil institute mas deportations of immigrants, separating children from their parents, perhaps forever.

Domestically I am afraid the Trump administration will continue its assault on the beloved pillars of our Union. A hollowing out of the civil service, a decapitation of the armed services with “warrior boards” designed to import into the values of our military that which is most anathema, allegiance to a man and not the Constitution.

In the world, I am afraid that Tulsi Gabbard, an asset of Russia and an apologist for Bashar Al- Assad will become Director of National Intelligence. That being the case, our friends and allies will stop sharing intelligence with us, all to the great danger of the nation and world.

In the world I am afraid that Pete Hegseth, a rapist and Fox News weekend host, will become Secretary of Defense. Our military is the strongest such force ever seen. That Mr. Hegseth would ignore his own incompetence in the area and accept such a nomination tells us much about his character and rightly frightens us all.

In the world I am frightened that our NATO alliances will wither, further emboldening a hegemonic Russia and weakening our ties to allies in the Pacific.

This past national election, free and fair, was painful for a majority of Americans. Much more so than that of 2016. The reason is clear, values we are taught as children by our teachers, parents, churches and the community are laid bare and abandoned. We were taught to value honesty, charity, fair play, forgiveness, patriotism, and honor. We elected a rapist, thief, racist, convicted felon and traitor to our highest and most revered office. As the shock wears away, it is replaced by grief, yet also a determination to, as John Lewis said, “redeem the soul of America”.

As for hopes; I hope the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution holds and Mr. Trump leaves office peacefully in January of 2029, leaving the Union bruised but still strong.

God Bless the Constitution of the United States.

  • I cannot believe this guy is was in the US Navy. Also an attorney along with being a Senator?
How many years. It would seem that this guy has been living in a vacuum and is out of touch with reality.

For one thing in Trumps first term he used tarrif’s (mostly to get certain countries to conform to his mandates) such as force these illegals to stay in Mexico enforced by the Mexican Govt.
Also to get some of the business to move there operation out of China back to the US.

Even with the lowered taxes, the economy was much better, oil prices were low as Trump also had opened up Fed property for drilling and also allowed the building of the pipeline that was stalled under Obama, (that Biden shut down)
From my memory at that time, the US was also exporting much oil and was self dependent on oil.
This along with Trump had shut down the borders on an executive order.

Obama deportation of illegals from his first term was over 1,575,00+ which decreased in his second term to about 1,517,000+
The Biden/ Harris, reportedly cannot account for over 300K= unaccompanied children that came across the border along with approximately (by various accounts) 10-12 millions+ illegals including many known terrorists along with much increase in the drugs that are killing hundreds of thousands of US Cit. annually.

Also the incoming Admin. is expected to attempt to end the “birthright Citizenship” that involve non US Cit. parents, that many refer to “anchor babies”. (Although this has been attempted in the past by many others)

We shall see what happens with the second Trump Admin. inspite of these ingnorant fear mongers.

One thing to think (worry about) is that if all goes as what the US people expect, (want) it is a very much possibility that VP, JD Vance will run for President and possibly, if elected, could be elected for two terms as Pres.
THEN what will the Dems be throwing at the past and incoming Admins??
What will happen with a possible 12 years Rep. president in office as an extension of Trump Admin ??

I am non partisan, but love him or hate him, Trump overwhelming won the electoral votes , reportedly, the highest number since in the 1970’s.
Also along with the highest popular vote in the last 20= years..
From various conflicting reports, Harris electoral votes were the lowest ever recoded for any candidate in history..
