Here’s what we know about the impending storm approaching the Mariana Islands (called Invest 95W for now), as of 8 a.m., Tuesday, September 10, 2024:
- It likely will become a tropical depression by this morning.
- When it becomes a tropical depression, its name will change to Tropical Depression 14W, and it will receive a storm name.
- It does not appear like it will have enough time to develop into anything stronger than a TD by the time it makes its closest approach to the Mariana Islands.
- The storm likely will make its closest point of approach (CPA) tonight; that CPA likely will be south of or over Guam.
- The TD is just one weather system. A monsoon to the south and a system to the west will prolong the rains and heavier winds throughout this week.
- Weather and government officials are near certain these events will not necessitate heightened readiness that calls for indoor operations to shut down.
- You should be prepared for the possibility that your power or water services could go out as a result of the weather this week.
- Guam Power Authority and Department of Public Works crews have been trimming trees near power lines to reduce the possibility of outages.
- Residents near drains should remove loose debris that may tend to clog drains during heavy rains and cause unnecessary flooding.
- Residents in flood-prone areas should be on heightened alert through this week.
- The governor is prepared to deploy law enforcement to manage high-volume intersections in the event traffic lights go down.
- Stay out of the water, and try to stay off the road during the heavy rains.
- Some people are circulating incorrect information. Double check the sources and timeliness of any information on the weather you want to share. If the information was not sourced from the National Weather Service Guam office, or the Guam Office of Civil Defense, there’s a possibility the information or part of it will be wrong.

I go to Kandit every day. I often want to pass on (share) info found there, such as this good summation of current weather. Some people will not open any “link”, so I would prefer to actually copy the info and pass that on. However, your website does not allow me to copy things. Please consider this and make some change to allow for copying.
Thanks so much.

Hi Donna. Thank you. I will ask our webmaster to make that change.
