Your power might go out tonight, according to Guam Power Authority spokeswoman Joyce Sayama. In a message shared with mayors this afternoon, GPA has asked the mayors to share in village chat rooms that several factors might cause load shedding tonight. There is one thing residents and businesses can do to avert load shedding: Do not run air conditioners, electric stoves, water heaters, or other energy-sapping devices until late in the evening (after 11 p.m.).
Here is the message GPA sent to mayors this afternoon:
“Please Conserve Energy Tonight ⚡
Power generation update as of 3pm, Sunday, April 6, 2025.
2 baseload plants (Cabras 1 and Piti 8) are operating today with limited energy output. The repairs to these plants will be scheduled during low-demand hours. Baseload unit Piti 9 has been offline since March 30th for a ~3 week planned overhaul. The standby and peaking units will be online. However, the reduced baseload output increases the risk of load shedding if energy demand exceeds the energy supply. The community is asked to conserve energy tonight. Together, we can beat the peak!
“The new Ukudu power plant is undergoing its months-long testing as part of the plant commissioning process. Ukudu was able to assist with peak energy demand last week. It will continue to contribute energy to the grid during the scheduled testing periods. Until Ukudu’s official commissioning this September, we remain vulnerable to load shedding.
“Thank you for your assistance. We appreciate you. 🙏🏼”
