More road funding, SSI under MSN proposal in Congress

The following is from a news release from the Office of Congressman Michael San Nicolas:

In testimony before the House Armed Services Committee today, Congressman San Nicolas has angled the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) issue into the narrative as a driver of servicemember recruitment, and further advocated for road improvements throughout the island as part of the Defense Access Road (DAR) initiative in line with missile defense initiatives on Guam.

“SSI, as a basic support system for American families, enables members of eligible families to take up the cause of serving our country with the assurance that their dependent family members have the basic level of support SSI provides; if we want to support recruitment we have to support our families with SSI,” Congressman San Nicolas explains.

“Additionally, as our planned missile defense system on Guam is going to require access to multiple defense platforms in various parts of the island, an island-wide assesment of al our island roads that comprise our Defense Access Road system is needed, to determine where further expansion and improvement must occur to support the missile defense mission,” Congressman San Nicolas continued.

“Together, these issues rationalized from an Armed Services point of view gives us a window to potentially achieve SSI as a National Defense Authorization Act provision, and further to enhance island-wide roads as a provision of the same,” Congressman San Nicolas continued.

“We would like to again thank Adm. Ben Nicholson, COMNAVMAR, and his team for his official correspondence supporting our request for a DAR study, which was entered into the record in today’s proceedings,” Congressman San Nicolas concludes.
