David Hernandez has started a GoFundMe to raise money so his wife can get a kidney transplant. Their goal is to raise $75,000. According to the tally on the GoFundMe page as of 8 p.m., December 5, 2024, $1,650 has been raised.
“Patti B. Portodo Hernandez was diagnosed with chronic tubulointerstitial nephritis since 2018,” the page attributes to Mr. Hernandez as saying. “Both kidneys are shrinking and functioning at 15%, she is being referred off island for a kidney transplant. We ask for your support to help defray the cost of travel, medical expenses and prayers. Thank you and Si Yu’os Ma’åse’.”
“Tubulointerstitial nephritis (TIN) is a frequent cause of acute kidney injury (AKI) that can lead to chronic kidney disease (CKD),” a 2017 study in the National Library of Medicine states. This study and other literature on the condition state it can lead to kidney failure.
