Prosecution struggles in Sked murder trial

The Joyner Sked trial reconvened today, and her lawyer believes it’s getting harder for the prosecution to prove she murdered former Umatac mayor Daniel Sanchez.  Guam Police Department’s Zenobia Lynn from their forensic science division took the stand and told the court there was not enough blood on Sked’s shirt to determine whose blood it was.  Terrence Timblin, Ms. Sked’s attorney, told Kandit that the trial is “going rather well,” for his client.

Judge Vernon Perez announced the court will be taking a break from the trial after the lunch hour due to some new information that has been brought to his attention.  Regarding the new information Judge Perez had come across, Mr. Timblin said, “I don’t want to get into it.  It’s not my place.”

After the jury was let out of the court room, Mr. Timblin told Kandit, “I think that several witnesses that the government was hoping to say things haven’t said what they wanted them to say.  It’s a long way over.  Deciding what a jury is going to do is impossible.”

Ms. Sked is on trial for the death of Sanchez.  Mr. Sanchez was found with stab wounds from scissors and blunt force trauma injuries from a hammer on April 3, 2021, in the home of Sked’s boyfriend, Rudy Quinata.  The couple allegedly padlocked Mr. Sanchez’s dead body inside of their Umatac shack and went their separate ways.  Ms. Sked was apprehended on April 4, 2021 and is being tried separately from Mr. Quinata as well.
