GUAM SUNDAY FORUM QUESTION: We want your opinions about the new GMH
What are the pros and cons of the legislature either allowing the governor to build the new hospital near Eagles Field, or forcing her to build it in Tamuning?
Opinions due at noon, Friday, December 6, 2024. Email to [email protected] and include your headshot, full name, short biography (including village, city, and state or country of residence), and phone number (for identity verification and not for publication).
I don’t understand this governor, and I use that term loosely, because I don’t call what she is doing as governing. Politicking, would be more accurate. She asked the legislature to do their job. So, they drafted a bill, discussed it, voted on it and she vetoed it. Why? It’s brutally obvious, she has no intention of using the legislature appropriately, except as a scapegoat to fulfill her own personal agenda.
Eagles Field Cons: Far from all other medical activity. Far from all other commercial activity in Guam. Roads in the that area are not suitable nor prepared for the increased traffic. People planning their day and who may have an appointment at Eagles Field location will have to plan on going to both sides to the island, instead of just one area. Pros: NONE!
Tamuning Pros: All related and associated medical facilities, as well as most other commercial activities are in this area. It is more convenient for the bulk of the island population. Cons: None. The activity already present at GMH will transfer to the new location (Oka Point), so nothing changes negatively for anyone…
The Governor should listen to the Medical Community as they want a new Hospital built in Tamuning which will be closer to their Clinic.
I fully support these Doctors.
The cost of road improvements and providing electric power to the new hospital will outweigh the federal credit. It needs 2 sources of power (looped and shouldn’t be radially fed) new transformers, new or expanded substations, and any new feeders/power lines should be buried/undergrounded for reliability purposes. Add that to the road improvements needed at Route 10 intersection at Crown and Bakery and Route 15 and its may cost more. Ypao point doesn’t need those particular improvements. How can that be ignored!
