(Ginger Cruz for Congress news release)–Ginger Cruz, a daughter of Guam with a proven track record of impactful service both locally and federally, officially filed her candidacy for Guam Delegate to Congress at the Guam Election Commission late [Thursday] afternoon.

Experienced, Tough, Effective, Cruz is renowned as a dynamic manager who has influenced policy at local and federal levels, from her days at a news desk in Harmon to the halls of power in Washington D.C. and the war-torn streets of Iraq.

Armed with over a thousand signatures and scores of energetic and loyal supporters, Cruz’s candidacy marks a defining moment in Guam’s history. Cruz is seeking office because she believes this moment demands experienced, dynamic, and wise leadership to address our People’s pressing challenges amid a critical time in the world.

Focused on protecting lives and improving our livelihoods, Cruz is the only candidate in the race to influence federal policy at a Congressional level and help implement it as a member of the federal government.

Her success in leadership positions in Guam and Federal Government, the private sector, media and academics is unparalleled among the other contenders for the office. Using this unique skillset, her focus will be to keep Guam safe at a turbulent time and to ensure that federal policy end practices that needlessly drive up our cost of living.

Cruz noted “One of the things that comes about from a long colonial experience is this idea that change happens To us rather than Because of us — that we are not the authors of our own destiny. That ends today.”

“The rest of the world is rising and Guam too must rise. This is our time. Why do we accept the limitations on our potential. If we are to fix the problems that have plagued us for years, we need to take action.” New leadership is needed she concluded, and this is why she is running.

Cruz continued, “Selfies won’t solve our problems at a federal level and sympathy won’t make us more successful in Congress—our recent history proves that. To win for Guam in Washington DC, we need experience and a true vision for our future that will produce results.”

Central also to Cruz’s campaign is the plight of Guam’s veterans, many of whom wait years for benefit approval or review.

“Clearly, our veterans are facing a systemic problem. People who have never worked in the belly of the federal bureaucracy can barely understand it let alone fix it—we can help do that work. And I won’t stop until the system finally works well for those who risked the most to protect our way of life.”

At her heart Cruz is the daughter of a public school teacher and a DPW Surveyor. Whether she was serving the Clinton administration on housing matters or working in Iraq as a federal employee, she never forgot where she came from, and having been home since 2019 she has seen the lack of direction in Guam’s Washington office. “I cannot sit on the sidelines when I know that I can be of service. We must protect what we have and build a vision for future generations. I am asking the people of Guam to put me to work for them. No one will work harder or more passionately for our cause.”
