1,000 power reconnections in 24 hours; Phase III begins next week

Guam Power Authority, along with its partners from the CNMI, Pohnpei, and Washington state, restored power to 1,000 Guam customers in a 24 hour period, according to its June 14, 2023 progress report. And the work continues.

A new feature in the report diagrams progress made in each village. Almost all of Talofofo has been reconnected, with 92.3 percent of the village restored, as of 1 p.m. June 14. Yigo and Dededo, the hardest hit by Mawar, were at 39 percent and 55.5 percent restored, respectively.

Most of the other villages are at more than 60 percent reconnected. The exceptions are Dededo, Yigo, Inarajan, and Malesso.

Islandwide, 66.1 percent of customers have had their power restored.

No one has been forgotten, Phase III next week

GPA crews soon will be moving into Phase III of its restoration campaign. This is the phase, where areas featuring greater damage will be repaired and restored. Hundreds of residents have messaged Kandit asking why power was restored to neighbors’s homes, and not theirs.

“Please let them know, no one has been forgotten, crews will be back to repair or restore,” GPA spokeswoman Joyce Sayama said. “It could be more likely the area has some extensive damage. This will be addressed in Phase III, [which begins] next week.”
