21% now have power; GPA will waive cost to reconnect weatherhead!

More than one-fifth of Guam Power Authority customers now have power only five days after Typhoon Mawar devastated Guam.

“GPA continues its power restoration process and have made progress to its post- typhoon recovery,” a news release from the power agency states. “The crews are divided into sectors to systematically address grid repairs. Repairs to transmission lines are being completed allowing crews to repair distribution lines that feed power directly into your homes and businesses. As we get closer to completing more substation restoration, our feeders/circuits energized percentages will increase resulting in substantially more customers’ power service restored.”

Customers with damaged weatherheads also need not worry about cost of reconnection. “We are waiving our costs of reconnecting weatherheads,” GPA communications director Joyce Sayama said. The agency will be pushing out information this week on how residents can apply for reconnection of their weatherheads. In the meantime, in order for GPA to make the reconnection, residents with damaged weatherheads must have a master electrician assess the damage and make the necessary repair. GPA will not incur that cost.
