Barnett on indictments: Adelup closer to day of reckoning thanks to AG

Sen. Chris Barnett

Sen. Chris Barnett, in response to media request for reaction to the recent corruption indictments, said he prays for those indicted and praises the attorney general for his commitment against corruption. He also connects years of silence from the Leon Guerrero administration on the issuance of sanitary permits to schools clearly not in compliance with safety and health standards to to indictment against the Guam Department of Public Health’s director and sanitation permitting division head.

Here is Mr. Barnett’s full statement:

“It may not be Lou and Josh who have to show up in court, but this is an indictment of Adelup’s failure to deliver basic services and set standards to our island.

“The Leon Guerrero/Tenorio administration has no problem bringing in political hires and giving out raises, but the Lt Governor’s promises to address crucial and much-needed staff shortages in areas that really matter – like public health and public safety – have fallen far short of what our People deserve.

“Those failures are hurting our people every single day. We all deserve new standards and we all deserve to have them held up by our elected leaders. Real change is only “impossible” or “impracticable” if you let politics get in the way.

“I questioned why our schools were given sanitary permits that aren’t worth the paper they’re written on. The Leon Guerrero/Tenorio administration never explained how or why they allowed this to happen, and now they’ll have to answer for it in court.

“I pray for those indicted and for their families, and I also commend AG Moylan for showing he is willing to hold Adelup accountable. That’s something we haven’t seen at the AG’s office in years.”

  • In reading the story, yes, I will pray that these people involved pay for their crimes. I find it so difficult to understand why the schools in Guam are in such disarray. When politicians run they typically start talking about education and the schools. While going to school in Guam, we have a cafeteria with hot food. It was clean, organized, and healthy. We also had a janitor. Campus was always clean & organized. I left Guam after graduation & just came back after 50yrs. I do not know when a third-party vendor took over, ever since it’s been downhill. And people wonder why the military have their schools inside the base. I just say, isn’t that something!
