A: As of now, weather experts believe Bolaven’s damaging winds will arrive somewhere in the Mariana Islands Tuesday morning, with the strongest parts of Bolaven coming through Tuesday evening/night. That timetable can change.

Q: Will Bolaven become a typhoon by the time it gets to the Mariana Islands?

A: Weather experts predict this will happen. That can change, though the Joint Typhoon Warning Center has started to see signs of possible rapid intensification as Bolaven nears the Marianas.

Q: Which island will get a direct hit?

A: It still is too early to tell.

Q: Will government offices be open in Guam Monday?

A: As of this time, GovGuam is scheduled to open Monday, unless the governor declares Condition of Readiness 2 before then. Stay tuned to the news for this.

Q: Will government offices be open in the CNMI Monday?

A: The CNMI government observes Commonwealth Cultural Day Monday. Regular operations will not be open.

Q: Will public schools be open in Guam Monday?

A: As of now, yes; unless the governor declares COR2 before then. Stay tuned for news on this.

A: Public schools in the CNMI also observe Commonwealth Cultural Day and will not be open.

Q: Is there a gas shortage in Guam or the CNMI?

A: No.

Q: How do I get updates on the storm if my internet and data service go down?

A: Tune into your local radio stations.

Q: What if no radio stations are transmitting signals?

A: Stay in your homes. If you have the ability to make phone calls, call your mayor’s office. If you have an emergency, call 911.

Q: Where should I go for the storm if I feel my home isn’t safe enough to withstand it?

A: Standby for information from either GovGuam or the Commonwealth government on whether storm shelters will open in any of our islands. If so, follow the instructions provided by your respective government for where to go, when to go, how you will get there, and what you should bring with you.

Q: What items should I store in my home before the storm comes?

A: Your medication, non-perishable food, jugs or bottles of water, pet food (if you have pets), candles, flashlights, batteries, disinfectant supplies, weather alert radio, battery-operated or hand-crank radio.

Q: What should I do about my pets that stay in the yard?

A: Bring them inside before the onset of damaging winds and rains.
