Candidates, pander your way into our pocketbooks, please

Ron McNinch could release a poll tomorrow that says the number one issue for voters in Guam is education, and I will stare that piece of paper in the eye and with true conviction say, “The voters are lying to your poll.”

There is no way, after opening last month’s power bill, that the everyday Guamanian’s number one priority isn’t simply to survive financially.

Thankfully, Will Parkinson led the passage of his bill that will continue the $100-a-month discount on our power bills from where the last discount left off. And, thankfully, Dwayne San Nicolas led the passage of an amendment to the Parkinson bill that changed its application from a $100 discount for April, May, and June to April, May, June, July, August, and September.

That is right in time for two very significant upcomings: the seasonal cooling down of Guam by God after Satan’s era of farts which is upon us now, and the election.

Between now and then, Mr. Parkinson can slap a baby on a viral YouTube video and Mr. San Nicolas can turn from Santa Claus into Freddy Krueger, and none of that will change the fact that what they led last week has absolutely won my vote.

I couldn’t care less if they were pandering. They pandered their way right into my pocketbook and my heart facsimile.

“We know we have the money for this, and we may never be able to do this again,” Mr. Parkinson said. “Our people need help, and this has been the most efficient way to put money directly into the pockets of our people. This is the people’s money. Let’s give it back to them.”

Did you hear all that? That was the sound of my ballot weighed down by my vote for Will Parkinson.

“This program remains the single most effective way to give our people their money back that the government continues to over collect. It’s true we have lots to do for our people however that should be done through effective budgeting and sound capital improvement projects.” – Chris Duenas

Oh my goodness, hand that ballot back to me. I need to vote for Chris Duenas, too.

Listen up, everyone running for office. This is the dire financial situation I believe the majority of voters are in. Everything is just so darn expensive. You find ways and policies that help to lower the cost of living or to otherwise increase our ability to afford those costs, and you’ll get elected.
