[Editor’s note: Guam Governor Lou Leon Guerrero submitted her opinion to Kandit’s question, “What are you most hopeful and most fearful about in the second Trump administration?”]

One of my greatest concerns is ensuring continued access to life-saving vaccinations. During the pandemic, Guam’s vaccination program saved countless lives and allowed us to navigate through one of the most challenging times in our history. It is a powerful example of how prevention and preparedness can protect our community.
As we move forward, I remain hopeful—hopeful that the Trump administration will recognize Guam’s strategic importance and stand with us in safeguarding the health of our people, the defense of our island, and the security of our nation.
