Governor’s program to teach kids how to build gaming apps


The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration, in partnership with DoD STARBASE and Carrot Group, a leader in engaging and inspiring all students to pursue STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) fields, is thrilled to announce its upcoming Mobile Game Application Development Workshop designed exclusively for high school students. This exciting and immersive program aims to empower young minds with cutting-edge skills in mobile game development while fostering creativity and design in a fun and engaging environment.

The participating students will understand the fundamental of game design and build a playable game for an Android-based mobile phone. The Mobile Game Application Development Workshop is set to take place daily from Monday, July 31, to Friday, August 11, at the Guam Community College. This hands-on experience is tailored to inspire and educate aspiring game developers, introducing them to the ever-evolving world of mobile gaming.

“Our administration proudly supports programs that empower our youth to think big and dream big,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “With the world at our fingertips–from our smartphones–it is critical we embrace and promote STEAM-based education and opportunities for all ages.”

“We encourage our high school students to take advantage of this interactive learning opportunity that will give them the fundamentals of mobile game development with the guidance of industry experts,” said Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio. “We look forward to seeing their designs showcased next month and supporting the next generation of designers and innovators.”

Mobile Game Application Development Workshop highlights:

Expert Guidance: Students will have the unique opportunity to learn from seasoned industry professionals who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and expertise in mobile game development.

Interactive Learning: Through a well-structured curriculum, participants will explore the fundamental aspects of mobile game application development, from conceptualization to deployment, gaining practical skills at each stage of the process.

Cutting-Edge Tools: Attendees will have access to the latest software and tools used by industry professionals, providing them with hands-on experience in a real-world development environment.

Showcase Event: At the end of the Workshop, the top students will present their mobile game applications in a showcase event, allowing them to share their creations with peers, parents, and mentors. Themed prizes and trophies will be given to the winning applications as determined by a panel of judges.
