GPA load shedding possible tonight

News release from Guam Power Authority: In the interest of providing customers with information of potential rotating outages so that they can plan accordingly, the Guam Power Authority advises customers of possible rotating outages beginning today at 5 p.m. through 12 midnight. Piti 8 will be offline for emergency repairs, reducing the total power generation capacity to 201 megawatts. Piti 8 repairs are expected to be completed this evening within 4 – 6 hours. Dededo CT1 continues to be offline and is anticipated to return to service within this week. Again, the notice is provided but does not mean a power interruption is imminent.

“GPA operations personnel and MEC are making every effort to expedite the Dededo CT1 and Piti 8 repairs to assist with generation capacity,” stated GPA General Manager, John M. Benavente, P.E. “We ask for your patience and kindly request that all customers conserve power, especially during the peak demand hours,” added GM Benavente. Despite all efforts, if there is a shortage of generation capacity tonight, GPA will, as a last resort to maintain grid stability, implement rotating outages lasting up to 1-hour. Power will be reconnected to all affected customers at the top of each hour.

The schedule of outages for tonight will be posted on GPA’s website and social media pages. We thank you for your understanding and continued patience.
