Here’s a holiday-cheerful story for you. This morning a Kandit reader noticed an old man who appeared to be lost along the road and sent us the information, along with a description of the old man. We sent the information to Guam Police Department spokeswoman Berlyn Savella, inquiring whether anyone had filed a missing person’s report on an elderly man.
She confirmed no missing person’s report had recently been filed about an old man, but her concern didn’t stop there.
Ms. Savella gave me an update this evening:
“Units proceeded to conduct a welfare check in the area provided in the text,” she wrote to me. “The man was located based on the description provided, and he was located nearest the old Burger King building off Route 1 and Bank of Guam, upper tumon.”
Police officers asked if he needed any help. He said he was homeless and not lost, and refused any kind of assistance. The officers observed he was coherent. They left to buy him food, but when they returned he was no longer there, she said.
God bless the Guam Police Department, Officer Savella, and the unnamed officers who cared for this stranger.

Another worthwhile story about our guys in blue that mostly go unnoticed! Thanks for highlighting these events that occurs on a daily basis and perhaps will continue to be reported.
Please keep up the great journalism!

yes, this is a good story and the media should post more of them. so much bad news. And each one of these homeless persons has a history. They were teenagers at some point. What happened in their lives ? They might have had a “silver lining” at some time. Also, did our schools ever give them some financial education ?
