Guam’s Democrats will be sending all 12 of its delegate votes for the nomination of Kamala Harris for president at the Democratic National Convention next month. The swift move – a meeting of the Democratic Party of Guam only hours after Joe Biden left the race and endorsed his vice president – makes Guam the first territory to make the endorsement.
Ms. Harris already has surpassed the 300-vote threshold needed for her name to appear on the DNC convention ballot following a spate of states pledging all their delegates to her. It began within hours of the Biden dropout with Tennessee, followed by South Carolina, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Florida. Now with Guam’s delegate pledge, the vice president has 543 votes or the 1,986 needed to secure the nomination, or more than one quarter of the way within fewer than 24 hours as a candidate.
In a statement, the Democratic Party of Guam wrote:
“Guam’s Delegates to the Democratic National Convention will pledge all of its 12 votes to Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic Presidential nominee at the upcoming Convention this August. We believe that VP Harris will carry forward an agenda that will continue to fight for the rights of minorities, women’s reproductive freedom, support for small businesses, gender equality, civil rights & justice reform, and investing in communities to strengthen the middle class. We are proud that as a fellow Asian American, her values align with our broader Asian Pacific culture.”
Chair of Guam’s Delegation, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero, said in the news release, “I am proud to announce, from where America’s day begins, that Guam Democrats stand united in supporting Vice President Kamala Harris as our Party’s nominee. She possesses the strength and capability to unite our nation and, ultimately, defeat Donald Trump in November.”
Ms. Leon Guerrero organized her party’s quick response, according to Lieutenant Governor Joshua Tenorio.
“Guam is the first territorial delegation to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris,” he said. “Today, our Democratic delegation has demonstrated leadership by uniting behind Kamala Harris to safeguard our democracy and the rights and freedoms Americans have fought for.”
Democrats and independents throughout the country and especially in the seven swing states have expressed relief and renewed excitement since the president dropped out of the race and Ms. Harris entered it.
“I think he made a choice for the country,” one North Carolina woman told an NBC reporter, “and I’m in favor of it.”
“It makes me much more happy there’s a greater chance Trump won’t win,” another Democrat from North Carolina said. “Because that debate scared me, scared the crap out of me.”
Others interviewed by NBC in the swing states said they remain undecided.

Funny, because we are a territory and nobody in CONUS cares about your opinion…

(Sigh) The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands is NOT A TERRITORY of the USA.
We are in “POLITICAL UNION” with the Federal government, as set forth in the COVENANT.
Those are the facts, Chris.
