Intensifying storm now packs 60 mph winds, moving north at 8 mph; Guam courts to close upon COR 2 declaration


At 5 pm ChST (Sunday, May 21, 2023) … the center of Tropical #Storm #Mawar was located near Latitude 7.4 degrees North and Longitude 148.1 degrees East.

Mawar is moving north at 8 mph. It is expected to make a slight turn toward the north-northwest with little change in forward speed over the next 24 hours.

Maximum sustained winds remain at 60 mph. Mawar is #forecast to intensify the next few days possibly becoming a #typhoon later tonight.

Chief Justice Robert Torres of the Supreme Court of Guam has issued an administrative order to close the courts upon the governor’s declaration of Condition of Readiness 2 (COR 2). Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero is anticipated to declare COR 2 at 8 p.m. ChST tonight, Sunday, May 21, 2023.
