Just in case: Tonight’s load-shedding schedule

From Guam Power Authority:

The Guam Power Authority advises customers of possible 1-hour rotating outages beginning today at 5 p.m. through 11 p.m. due to limited generation capacity.

Repairs to baseload units, Cabras 2 and Piti 9, were completed and the units have been placed into service, although Cabras 2 is generating at limited capacity. Two critical combustion turbines, Dededo CT1 and Yigo CT, remain offline. Dededo CT1 repairs are expected to be completed by early next week, while typhoon-damage repairs to Yigo CT may take several months to complete. As of 3 p.m., the total power generation capacity was 222 megawatts which may fall short of peak demand.

“GPA plant operators are making every effort to safely maximize the generation output of all units and limit repair time,” stated GPA General Manager, John M. Benavente, P.E. “We ask for your patience and kindly request that all customers conserve power, especially between the hours of 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. when power demand is the highest and the time period where load shedding is most likely to occur,” added GM Benavente.

Despite all efforts, if there is a shortage of generation capacity tonight, GPA will, as a last resort to maintain grid stability, implement rotating outages lasting up to 1-hour. Power will be reconnected to all affected customers at the top of each hour.

This notice is provided but does not mean a power interruption will occur. The schedule of outages for tonight will be posted on GPA’s website and social media pages. We thank you for your understanding and continued patience.
