Republicans may face an additional hurdle in their effort to regain the legislative majority that has evaded their electoral grasp since Mark Forbes was the speaker. And this time, the problem appears to be internal and personal.
A Republican Party of Guam attempt to take a group picture of its senatorial candidates devolved into a showdown between Telo Taitague and several Republican officials trying to calm her anger about Tom Fisher’s presence at the photo opp.
Ms. Taitague is seen and heard in the video shouting profanities and refusing to be part of the attempted Republican unity image over her accusations that Mr. Fisher is not a Republican.
The two have been at odds nearly their entire term together in the legislature and most recently are engaged in a lawsuit involving his allegations that she violated the Freedom of Information Act.
Party elders Frank Blas, Jr. and Tony Ada attempted to reason with Ms. Taitague. That effort also led to a shouting match between she and Mr. Ada.
Kandit asked party chairman and senatorial candidate Shawn Gumataotao:
- Can we get a statement from the party regarding questions of unity behind your senatorial candidates?
- Does the party stand behind Mr. Fisher’s candidacy? If so, does the party condemn Ms. Taitague’s behavior [at the photo shoot]?
- How will Republicans deliver on a legislative mandate as a majority if both Fisher and Taitague are part of that majority?
Mr. Gumataotao read the questions sent to him on WhatsApp Thursday night, but he has yet to respond.

Mr. Tony Ada is not only for Republicants but for the people and what’s right. Here we thought that the senators are for the people, but they focus on them self.
