Missing woman reportedly seen “recently”

Guam Police Department officers received information that a woman missing since December 21 last year was “seen recently with another lady,” according to GPD spokeswoman Berlyn Savella.

Betty Diamond Katsuta’s mother told Kandit her 24-year-old daughter was last seen near her home on Chalan Cabesa, in Yigo four days before Christmas. Kandit made and posted a “Missing” flier four days ago to help the family, who had not received updates from police since filing a missing person’s report.

Within minutes of posting the flier, readers began commenting and sending in messages providing tips about her whereabouts and her online activities the day before she went missing.

Among the tips were that Ms. Katsuta may be at a home near Santa Barbara Catholic Church and school in Dededo.

“I received information that officers had made a check reference to information provided and ended with negative results,” Ms. Savella said. “Betty was not located at that location.”

The vast majority of hundreds of comments pointed to what is believed to be her Facebook posts on her Facebook page between December 19 and 20, the day before she was last seen near her home.

All of her public posts that day appeared to be angry messages toward an unnamed person she accuses of being a rapist.

A December 19 post on her page makes reference to the assault of another female, as well as to herself.

“They’d beat me ‘til I’m knocked out unconscious and do whatever ‘til I awake,” she wrote. “They’d say ‘You did this and this, I have [a] picture of it,’ … You all know it’s wrong yet you join in on it … hurting for not wanting what you did to me and the rest of the girls. It’s men thinking they can do whatever they want to girls and beating them because they should be ashamed, why?”

A post on December 20 makes reference to a person as a “pedophile” and a rapist.

Kandit provided GPD this information and asked for an update on its investigation into her whereabouts over the weekend.

On Tuesday morning, Ms. Savella provided the update that police received information she was seen recently with another woman, described only as someone ‘from the FSM.’

Ms. Savella could not say how the informant knew the other woman was ‘from the FSM,’ how recently she reportedly was seen, or how credible the tip was.

“Although she was identified seen walking, the case remains open,” Ms. Savella said.

Please call Ms. Katsuta’s mother at (671) 997-8500 and GPD if you have information about where she may be or how police and her family can verify she is alive and well.
