Do you want your kid to learn how to be a businessperson, engage with customers, and to think critically? Often parents and education leaders lament the lack of “real world” knowledge the education system imparts on young minds. Daria Calvo, who started the non-profit Nenpire, has set out to give kids learning opportunities that can create the next generation of responsible and ethical businesspeople in Guam.
Nenpire began its children’s (neni) entrepreneurial program, The 2024 Christmas Series, on November 16. It consists of four workshops held on Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at different businesses around the island.
“Each workshop is designed to provide hands-on, engaging experiences that will enable children to learn from industry professionals, think through ideas, and apply hard work and passion throughout their journey as young entrepreneurs or as they are called: ‘NENtrepreneurs,'” the Nenpire news release on the program states.
There will be a Neni Christmas Market – the culmination of the program – on December 22 at Guam Premier Outlets, where the kids will showcase the businesses they built to customers.
“We want to encourage our children to dream big, work hard, and believe in their abilities. If they can practice these skills at a young age, there are no limits to what they can achieve as adults,” Ms. Calvo said. “Our goal is to provide an inclusive and engaging experience that empowers children to explore their passions and build a better future for themselves and their communities.”
The program is available to children ages 6 to 14.
