Last night the angels took our dear friend Art Perez to meet our Lord. Please pray for him and send your condolences and prayers to his wife Anita and their beautiful children. His funeral arrangements are being planned. In the meantime, below this tribute you will find the schedule of Holy Rosaries and Masses to be celebrated with intentions for him.
Art was one of my favorite colleagues in the government of Guam. Many of you will remember him as the longtime spokesman for Guam Power Authority. Aside from our normal correspondence between the public relations of his agency and the work we did at Adelup, Art was among a handful of service warriors I could always count on whenever things went down.
Most of you don’t know this, but whenever there was a typhoon or any other type of emergency back in those days, some of us would pull shifts in the Joint Information Center that would keep us from home for days at a time sometimes. There was Art, always smiling, always working, always devoted to serving.
Anyone who encountered him felt his warmth. Anyone who knew him knew what a joyful and kind man he was. He was a better professional than I ever was, but that didn’t stop him from laughing at Officer Alan Guzman’s jokes in the JIC, or gossiping with me about something light.
Art had a wonderful sense of justice. He deplored corruption and cronyism. He had compassion for the people who made mistakes and were punished while the powerful and influential got away with major crimes. He was among those who stuck with me when the going got tough, sending me kind words and uplifting messages.
My dear friend Art, watch over us and pray for us. We will miss your voice and your smile here on earth.

And, there were those that persecuted this Good, humble man. He kept the wolves off their back and they took great glee in beating him down.
He would tell me to forgive them. But, although he did, more likely, Gehenna waits for them.
