SCHEDULE: Load shedding through midnight

Baseload units Cabras 2 and Piti 9 remain offline for emergency repairs, reducing the total power generation capacity to 215 megawatts, as of 3 p.m. today. Dededo CT1 continues to be offline and is anticipated to return to service within the week.

“GPA operations personnel and MEC are making every effort to expedite the Cabras 2 and Piti 9 repairs to assist with generation capacity,” stated GPA General Manager, John M. Benavente, P.E. “We ask for your patience and kindly request that all customers conserve power, especially during the peak demand hours,” added GM Benavente.

Despite all efforts, if there is a shortage of generation capacity tonight, GPA will, as a last resort to maintain grid stability, implement 2-hour rotating outages. Should outages longer than 2-hours be necessary, GPA will make best efforts to minimize the impact on each circuit.

The Guam Power Authority advises customers of possible rotating outages beginning today at 4 p.m. through 12 midnight.
