Teens arrested for ransacking, stealing from Dededo restaurant; mother turned in her son


The following is from a news release from the Guam Police Department:

On April 21, 2023 Dededo Precinct Patrol Officers responded to a burglary complaint at the Wan Chai Restaurant in Dededo. An employee of the restaurant discovered the establishment was burglarized upon her arrival to work noting the typhoon shutters pried open, the front door was damaged and interior ransacked with numerous items evidently missing. On the same date, security footage of the burglary went viral on social media which led a woman to come forward to police and identified her 15 year old minor son to be one of four males depicted in the video of the burglary.

The Juvenile Investigations Section conducted a follow-up investigation wherein the male minor was interviewed and later admitted to his part in the burglary, he was then taken into custody for:

Burglary

Theft of Property
Conspiracy
Consumption Alcohol Underage Beyond Control

and subsequently confined at the Department of Youth Affairs.

The Juvenile Investigations Section continued their follow-up investigation wherein additional security footage and evidence were collected leading to the identification and interviews of two male minors, 14 and 15 years old, and an 18 year old male adult, Joy Aki.

During their interviews, all three admitted to their part in the burglary of the Wan Chai Restaurant. The male adult, Joy Aki was arrested for:

Burglary
Theft of Property Conspiracy
Jurisdiction Over An Adult

He was subsequently booked and confined at the Department of Corrections.

The two male minors were taken into custody for:

Burglary
Theft of Property
Conspiracy
Consumption Alcohol Underage and Beyond Control

The case has been CLOSED and referred to the Office of the Attorney General.

The Guam Police Department cannot express enough gratitude towards the community for their bravery and quick action in calling the police. This led to the successful conclusion of the investigation and the apprehension of other participants involved. We encourage everyone to continue taking a stand and doing what is right, especially when it comes to ensuring the safety and well-being of our communities.
