The archbishop’s prayer for protection from storms

Archbishop Ryan Jimenez

By His Excellency Ryan Jimenez

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Peace be with you! Weather experts are monitoring an area of tropical disturbance in our region, which understandably prompts concern and even anxiety in many people. Keeping in mind that our loving God is always with us, in stormy days as well as calm, let us join in prayer, asking for his protection.

We pray for potential storms to weaken and dissipate, safeguarding people in their direct path from any danger. We entrust ourselves and all people to the mercy, love and protection of our Lord.

Our prayers most of all are for the weakest and most vulnerable among us; the homeless, impoverished, elderly, sick and young. They struggle during ordinary days. When storms or other disasters strike, their suffering is compounded in ways most of us do not know. May the mercy of Jesus Christ be the same mercy that fills our hearts.

As we prepare now and throughout the year for possible typhoons, flooding and earthquakes, please take the time to check on relatives, friends, neighbors as well as strangers who might lack the resources you have. Please help them generously.

Our love and prayers extend beyond Micronesia, to the Philippines, Japan, Korea, other parts of Asia, Oceania — where Pope Francis is currently visiting Papua New Guinea — and certainly to our entire world. May all people find peace and shelter in the loving arms of Our Lord.

Yours in Christ,
/s/The Most Reverend Ryan P. Jimenez

Good to pray for only mild storms. What about prayers for aggressive, selfish driving behavior. Innocent persons can be badly injured and suffer with pain.
