WATCH: Elderly woman with cancer, heart problems, breaks down about cop who allegedly assaulted her

Victim had a seizure at the Dededo precinct, while other cops did nothing; waited half an hour to call medics

It was just a matter of time before this happened to an innocent civilian without any criminal history. This is what happens when we remain silent about police corruption and tolerate it and qualify it just because it’s only happened to criminals.

This is Veronica Patao and her husband, John Patao; and they welcome me into their Yigo home to interview them about their horrific experience at the hands of police officers at the Dededo police precinct three days ago.

Ms. Patao is a grandmother and homemaker. She also suffers with cancer, heart problems, and seizures. Mr. Patao is a retired military combat veteran, who served his country honorably. He suffers through debilitating disease as well. The couple are law abiding citizens, and up until three days ago were so accustomed to praising the police, they would bring doughnuts to the Dededo precinct every other week on their fixed income.

– A police officer allegedly assaulted her because she refused to sign a paper he threw in front of her that she couldn’t read because she didn’t have her glasses.

– She fell to the floor in convulsions, because she was having a seizure, and no one called the medics for nearly half an hour.

– Other police officers knew what was happening and did nothing.

We all have known for years that there are bad cops who have been beating Guamanians. Some of you chose to keep your mouths shut and to excuse their behavior. Shame on you. You are just as guilty of this problem as these duty cops.
