Woman whose car went airborne in Yigo has died


The following is a news release from the Guam Police Department:

In light of the recent serious traffic crash that occurred on August 7th, 2023, in the parking lot of Payless Supermarket, Yigo, we would like to provide some updated information regarding the incident.

At approximately 2:02 PM, officers from Dededo Precinct responded to the scene following a collision in the Yigo area. Medical units were immediately requested and arrived on-site. Additionally, the Guam Highway Patrol Division was notified and their presence was requested.

The preliminary investigation have been established:

A silver sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on the median lane of Rt. 1, passing Hafa Adai Market, Yigo. The vehicle collided with another vehicle in the inner eastbound lane.

The operator of the silver sedan lost control of the vehicle, resulting in it veering off the roadway. After hitting a berm in front of Payless Supermarket parking lot, the vehicle went airborne and collided with several parked vehicles before finally coming to a stop in front of Island Girl Coffee Shop.

The lone occupant of the vehicle, a female adult, was ejected during the collision and was found within the parking lot vicinity. Guam Fire Medic Personnel transported the female to Guam Regional Medical City. However, she was later pronounced deceased at 2:43 PM by Dr. Adele Tse.

The operator of the vehicle has not yet been officially identified, pending notification of next of kin. The investigation into the incident is currently underway and remains open.

In light of this unfortunate incident, we would like to take this opportunity to remind all drivers to prioritize safety on the roadways.
