AG not responding to scandal

Attorney General Leevin Camacho has yet to respond to several questions Kandit sent him Saturday about a scandal brewing in his office. Kandit the past few days has been exposing significant issues within his prosecution division. Several sources close to the Office of the Attorney General allege an array of misconduct and mismanagement, and that Camacho continues to endanger criminal justice on island.

These are the questions we sent Saturday, all of which went unanswered:

  1. Did the attorney general tell people that prosecutors are typical disgruntled employees who complain when they don’t get what they want?
  2. Did he tell prosecutors, after they complained that more prosecutors are needed to handle the criminal case load, that the AG’s office does not need more prosecutors, and that the prosecutors should learn to manage?
  3. Is it true the AG has pressured prosecutors to charge cases even after the prosecutor said they could not find probable cause to make a charge?
  4. Is it true that multiple times, the AG pressured prosecutors to charge cases for which he never read the police report?
  5. What does the AG have to say to allegations he only engages prosecutors when a case makes waves in the media?
  6. Why did the AG give the chief prosecutor a case load, but not his first assistant (Dave Rivera), who makes about $130k in the prosecution division to prosecute no cases?
  7. Why are there two first assistants?
  8. What were Dave Rivera’s responsibilities up until last month?
  9. How will the AG assure the public that violent crimes will be properly prosecuted and not compromised to the plea bargain process due to a shortage of prosecutors and an increased case load?
  10. Why was the sex crimes prosecutor at the time – Christine Tenorio – not consulted in the charging of Dr. Abner Pasatiempo? Why was Pasatiempo only charged with official misconduct, and not with any felonies or CSC?

Kandit has published three stories based on highly-placed source information regarding these matters:

Exodus of prosecutors from AG’s office

Prosecutors revolt; AG’s actions may force better plea deals for criminals

Gag order at AG’s office prevented sex crimes legislation
