Editorial: No one wants to hear that, governor

The perplexing refrain from Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero and her administration is counterproductive to the recovery effort. Perhaps the administration is so used to recovering politically from its mistakes by gaslighting the public with soppy music videos that it needs a reality check for its first typhoon recovery rodeo:

No one wants to hear your company line that ‘Everything is fine,’ or that ‘We’re recovering faster than ever before.’

It provides zero comfort to the suffering.

In fact, it tells us you’re dismissing our very valid complaints.

Everything is not fine. The air-conditioned luxuries of Government House may be misleading your sensitivities to the plight of your people, governor. But, we assure you, the heat, humidity, unsanitary conditions, confusion about the water, anxiety about money, federal aid rejections, homelessness, restlessness, and every unanswered question (and there are many) is a better barometer of what we weather under your palatial perspective.

The response rate of 21 years ago cannot be used as a benchmark for progress today. You know what the real benchmark is? The people’s expectations today. And those expectations matter precisely because you work for us, and not the other way around.

We’re not your subjects to be calmed. We’re not your children to be ordered and disciplined. We’re the people who pay your salary, governor.

Please tell your radio show hacks on that ridiculous show you wasted OUR money on to stop acting like everything is fine and you’re all doing the job you’re paid to do. You’re not. The misery of many is a direct reflection of that.

Bente-i-uno dias tai elekrisidat yu. Meggai man desganáo ni setbisio muchumas put i elekrisidat yan I hanom. Guaha man manana I lugat niha ya i pomalu man gaigi gi hinemhom. Gof parehu este na hinemlo (recovery) yan I teimpon pakyo Pamala.

  • After reading what your 2 cronies Jayne Flores and Carlotta Leon Guerrero said on your radio station, that after 2 weeks, the island is doing great and should pat themselves on the back, they can take that pat and shove it where the sun don’t shine! This was preventable! It’s the non maintenance of GPA and GWA. We have the CCU and the PUC board, that decides when to increase and decrease rates then pats themselves on the back for a job well done, where is the maintenance plan for both. The AG should have the heads of these agencies rolling. They should be removed! An example is the DOE board, what is their purpose when the schools are in dire straits. All those running for election promise fix the school, fix the hospital, fight crime, but no improvements whatsoever. It all starts at the top, those people should be held accountable and should be fired!
    They know who they are!!

This is just a suggestion why don’t Kanditnews do an opinion poll on how well the government is doing with the recovery efforts.

  • These corrupt career politicians are the real hideous actors behind the suffering of the people of Guam! Remember, Lou Lou was once a senator! Just like so many other corrupt career politicians! Then we add in the mix of their corrupt cronies that run these corrupt agencies and want to pat themselves on the back! The government of Guam is the only place I know that gives raises for incompetence! Remember, raise’s given to the CCU and PUC people! Look at the people suffering! The 22% pay raises on top of raises given to the governor’s staff! Look at the people suffering! The senators who approved these pay raises! Look at the people suffering! 60 years since typhoon Karen! Look at the people suffering! 20 years since typhoon pongsonga! Look at the people suffering! Either these corrupt career politicians are idiots or they and there businesses benefit from the peoples suffering! Jane and Carlotta, your political propaganda show is just that, your nothing more then cronies to this corruption! Let’s not forget all these mayors and vice mayors for this little tiny island! Do we really need all of them to manage less than 200,000 people! Last but not least, to the former and present attorney generals! You allowed this corruption to take place under your watch! Because of that the people are suffering! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again! “Govguam at the highest levels is nothing more than an Organized Crime Syndicate”! To our current attorney general, why are you not prosecuting all of them under the RICO act! Where is the US attorney general? I for one, is sick of these laws passed by these corrupt senators that only hold the lower and middle class accountable, yet never pass laws that hold them accountable! There are a silent majority that feels this way, but are afraid to speak up in fear of retaliation from these corrupt people in charge! That falls under the RICO act!

  • This is literally the only thing missing from any updates about typhoon recovery!

“ the heat, humidity, unsanitary conditions, confusion about the water, anxiety about money, federal aid rejections, homelessness, restlessness”

This is truly what’s going on! Maybe the governor should stop talking and visit those homes and see the damage coupled with rejection after rejection.
