There’s a phrase used a lot in election politics, when a dark horse candidate wins the race, when it seems so certain he or she will lose: Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.
Only the Guam Legislature can think of doing something so stupid, that the saying can be reversed.
But here we are in observation land, where the legislative inside sources tell us that a majority of senators may be snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Just as Lou Leon Guerrero struggles at perhaps her lowest point of popularity, her agenda (whatever that is) crippled by a government in disarray and an economy in shambles – and just as senators seemed to be on a path of good policy making and stern checks against the powers of the governor – mumblings are surfacing that a new coalition of republicans and democrats want to depose Therese Terlaje and elect a new speaker.
You do that, senators, and mark my word, whatever confidence and trust you built the past several months with the public will be lost. You will be politically castrated by your own scalpel. And, worse, the agenda you had to pass sensible legislation, to stand up for the economically disadvantaged (the majority of us), and to hold Adelup accountable will be rendered impotent by such a short-sighted coup.
Let your tempers and your emotions take a back seat to reason, smart political strategy, and your very own political survival instincts. No one likes a coup, especially when everyone wants you to do better and smarter things with your time… like your jobs.

Watch out Republican senators. Now is not the time to join those Adelup puppets in shaking down the legislature. Leave things as they are or you’ll be joining the line for a new job coming election.
